Hooray! We are off to the races! Wouldn't this elegant blue and white fascinator be perfect for that next big race day? It sure looks like the track will be open this year, and here's a nice opportunity to be ready. Did you know: it is considered GOOD LUCK to wear a hat or fascinator to the racecourse!
Our first unique fascinator is finished and will be one of the raffle prizes at the Saratoga Center for the Family's "Power of Hope Celebration." The raffle tickets are only $25ea and purchasing one might very well make you the lucky winner of the couture fascinator (which i made just for this event ~ you can see progress photos in a previous blog post) pictured here, a two night stay at the stunning Mirror lake Inn, or a gift card to Rumors Salon, among other great gifts! To purchase a raffle ticket scroll down to the [BUY TICKETS NOW] button through this link to the event info: saratogacff.org/events/celebrating-power-hope The Power of Hope Celebration is a virtual wine and food event which will happen on May 20th, so in addition to raffle tickets, there are plenty of other options to join in the fun while supporting the Saratoga Center for the Family. All ticket sales will end on May 20th. Information about this non profit's mission can be found here: https://saratogacff.org OF COURSE I hope everyone buys tons of raffle tickets, along with the wine and food offerings, and the Saratoga Center receives more support than they dream for. I hope my "The Power Hat Project" offering here inspires extra raffle ticket sales, and I hope my hat makes someone very happy once the event has ended. If you would like to see the NEXT Power Hat Project creation, and find information about where it will be going, you need only follow this blog. If you are curious about my work in general, my portfolio can be seen at KarenSewellHats.com I invite you to send along any ideas for hats or fascinators you might like me to make for the events still to come, and I ask that you share this website with everyone you feel may be interested. Together we have a chance to do a world of good for our community. CHEERS!

Our first project's partner organization is the Saratoga Center for the Family, and their "Power of Hope" Virtual Celebration and Tasting is just over a week away, on May 20th, so I'd better get myself in gear! I'm working on a large hat-like fascinator in blues and white with a wide brim for this event. The cool colors and sloped crown make for a nice spring/summer feel so it will be perfect for those Saratoga luncheons or a day at the races! It may have a couple of flowers with crystal centers and veiling, but I'm still undecided on these just now. (With COVID19 restrictions finally easing, it's definitely time to think about getting out and about again). The fascinator will be set on a headband, with a hair clip or two, so to will be easy to wear, and will stay put without creating hat-hair.
This is a one-of-a-kind couture piece of wearable art, created just for this event. I am adding a couple of progress photos to this post, and the next post will show the finished piece, along with bidding and event info. I'm hoping my small addition to this event will help the families of the Saratoga area, and so ask everyone to be generous and bid in a big way. One space left.
Four wonderful organizations have partnered with The Power Hat Project so far, so I am still looking for one non-profit organization that might like to have one of my hats or fascinators to add to an auction or raffle at an already planned event this year. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you know a great organization that could use one of my donations. Thanks!! I am looking to partner with a few non-profit organizations that may need donations for upcoming auctions, silent auctions, raffles, etc......
I am a Saratoga Springs based milliner grateful to have been awarded an artist grant by Saratoga Arts/NYSCA for my idea entitled “The Power Hat Project.” This grant enables me to create unique wearable art hats or fascinators to be donated to local non-profit organizations that will host fundraising events in Saratoga County, NY. If you know an organization who could use one of my creations for their event, I invite you to contact me or send a comment below. THANK YOU, and please follow along to see how things progress! |
